Empowerment

Die Idee einer dienenden, den Menschen positiv veränderten Form von Führungsarbeit, kann als zweiteinflussreichste Strömung bezeichnet werden. (Vgl. Maak/Pless 2006, Responsible Leadership, S.45)
Ein dienender Leiter setzt die Ziele so, dass das Potential aller Beteiligten sich entfalten kann. Hiermit ist in der Regel der Begriff des „Empowerments“ verbunden, der auch andere wissenschaftliche Subdisziplinen prägt, wie die der sozialen Arbeit.

Das Empowerment-Konzept richtet den Blick auf die Selbstgestaltungskräfte der Adressaten z.B. von sozialer Arbeit und auf die Ressourcen, die sie produktiv zur Veränderung von belastenden Lebensumständen einzusetzen vermögen. (Vgl. Herriger 2006, Empowerment in der Sozialen Arbeit: eine Einführung, 3. Aufl., S. 7). Auch die Psychiatrie hat „Empowerment“ erreicht: vgl. Knuf/ Osterfeld/ Seibert, Selbstbefähigung fördern: Empowerment und psychiatrische Arbeit.

Aber zurück zur Managementlehre/-forschung: Hier ist Empowerment mit Namen wie Greenleaf und Blanchard verbunden.

Während Greenleaf hauptsächlich durch Hermann Hesse beeindruckt war, sind ganz viele Vertreter dieser Richtung durch das christliche Ideal, dass ein Leiter dann am wirksamsten sei, wenn er alle Kompetenzen und Möglichkeiten, die er selbst zur Verfügung hat, ohne Rücksicht auf Verluste in „seine Leute“ investiere (und damit die Mitarbeiter freisetzen und befähigen sollte).
Das Ideal der bedingungslosen Hingabe an seine Leute, ist im post-christlichen Europa wohl nur zu verstehen, wenn man den theologischen Hintergrund kennt: hier wird eine Parallele zur
Führungsarbeit Jesu gezogen. Auch Jesus hat sich nach dem Neuen Testament radikal in seine Jünger investiert und diese freigesetzt und befähigt (vgl. z. B. Matthäus-Evangelium 20, 26f.).
